Who am I?

The Reason Why I Started Writing "FOOD with Mi"

Before I delve into how I started my blog, let me briefly introduce myself. My name is Yu mi, and people often ask me if I'm Japanese. However, I'm a Burmese girl who currently lives in Western Australia. My full name is Yu Mi Darli Maung, and I understand that some of you may find it difficult to pronounce. So, please feel free to call me Yu Mi – it's easy to remember, just like "You and Me" or "Yummy". That's what I always tell my customers. Oh yeah… I nearly forgot to tell you that I work as a waitress at one of the famous winery restaurants in Perth, and I take great pride in my job.

As a waitstaff, my job is not just limited to taking orders and serving customers. It also involves sharing my favourite dishes and describing how delicious they are. I am extremely happy to do this, and I'm not exactly sure why I'm so in love with my job. But it certainly makes my soul come alive with happiness.

As someone who enjoys sharing their favourite food, I decided to start writing this blog. I believe that all types of food are amazing, but I particularly enjoy meat dishes, high-starch, and carbohydrate-rich dishes, and steamed rice with chilli. And when I say I like steamed rice, I mean I really like it - I can easily devour an entire cooker full of it by myself! That’s my superpower.

Pork Curry, Braised Beef, Prawn Curry, and Deep-Fried Whole Fish are my favourite dishes to serve with steamed rice and chilli. I love to use pounded fresh chilli with garlic, fried chilli, chilli oil, and other spices to enhance the flavour of my meals. Even as I write this post, I find myself craving these dishes.

However, my mindset changed two months ago when I discovered that I had a bone stress fracture on my right foot due to my heavy weight and over-walking. I knew I needed to take action and change my daily diet plan to include more well-balanced and nutritious dishes. This was my game-changer, as I discovered that there are many good, healthy, and delicious foods beyond the curries and oily side dishes that I used to consume.

So, I have been considering sharing my healthy and delicious recipes with you. Apart from writing about my all-time favourite curries, I would like to share healthier versions of them. There is nothing more crucial than sharing and enjoying a well-balanced, nutritious, and delicious meal with your loved ones.
